The International Symposium on Hepatitis C Virus, Flaviviridae and Related Viruses is organized on an annual basis and rotates between Europe, North America and Asia/Australia. The symposium's history goes back to 1994 and played a crucial role in the characterization of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and the discovery of the currently available effective medication for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.
The 28th edition of the meeting will be organized in Ghent, Belgium and will be the first edition after the introduction of a slight name change. While historically HCV was the main focus of the symposium, from the Ghent edition on other Flaviviridae (flaviviruses, such as Dengue, Yellow Fever, West Nile and Zika viruses; pestiviruses and pegiviruses) and other related viruses (such as the enteric hepatitis viruses HAV and HEV) will get a more prominent role.
• Viral entry, replication and morphogenesis
• Basic and applied immunology (innate and adaptive)
• Vaccine development
• Pathogenesis: extrahepatic manifestations, liver disease, HCC
• Antivirals, drug resistance and big data management
• Epidemiology
